vote!!!!
As you may know, Nov 8 is Election Day in Texas, and I encourage everyone to vote. For those who want to participate but don't know on what we are voting, I am here to help. We will begin by discussing Propostion 2, whose verbiage follows:
Proposition 2
"The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage."
Holy shit are we actually voting on gay marriage? Not really but sort of. I think we are voting to add an amendment to the Texas Constitution that will prohibit the state from making any attempts to legalize gay marriage going forward. I wasn't aware that Texas was in any way at risk of legalizing gay marriage but whatever, I guess there is enough of a risk that we are voting on it. So basically a vote for is a vote to add an amendment that will forever outlaw same sex marriage. A vote against will not "inlaw" same sex marriage, it will simply do nothing. Keep things the way they are. Make same sex marriage a theoretical possibility on the future by not permantly outlawing it. Not great but better than the amendment so I am voting against the amendment and I encourage everyone to do the same. Now here is where it gets tricky. I think the republicans may want you to vote against it as well. I am not really sure why, but I think their stance is that the amendment does not do enough anti gay stuff, like for example it does not specifically prohibit same sex relations. To the republicans, this is a con. I wonder, if the nazi twins were Texans, which way would they vote? hmmm, I wonder??
